July 15, 2010 - Costa Rica - Panama

Thursday July 15, 2010 meeting was at the
Outrigger Canoe Club, 2509 Kalakaua Ave., Honolulu, at 6 pm.
Members Pinkie and Edward Carus presented
"A New Look at Costa Rica and the Panama Canal"
Ed wrote: "Before joining the 65 passenger Lindblad/National Geographic M/V Sea Voyager cruise along the West coast of Costa Rica, Pinkie and Edward Carus made a two day side trip to the Monteverde Cloud Forest.  We hiked through the canopy of the jungle, towering 100 feet above the valley floor the variety of flora and fauna is often significantly greater than that on the ground.
Once on board the Sea Voyager, we cruised along the Pacific coast and anchored off isolated Manuel Antonio and Corcovado National Parks where we hike through tropical forests.  We also visited botanical gardens, wildlife refuges or swam in pristine waters.  The climax of our cruise however, was the night and day passage through the century-old Panama Canal.  Come join us for an evening of easy chair adventures."
