Adventurers' Club of Honolulu - March 18, 2021 Mtg. Snorkeling at Palmyra

Dear Adventures',  Welcome to the month of March and another great program to kick off the Spring of 2021! Meeting Date: Thursday, March 18, 2021     Please join us to hear guest, Kydd Pollocktalk about,

"A Virtual Snorkel & Adventure Tour of Palmyra."

RSVP Deadline: Sunday, March 14, 2021 (please email Carolyn Gire at carogire@hawaii.rr.com)

Palmyra Atoll is an exciting, vibrant place with a storied history and, as The Nature Conservancy has discovered, great potential to unlock solutions to some of the most pressing environmental issues of today. When The Nature Conservancy purchased Palmyra in 2000, we knew it was one of the last, wild places worth preserving for its biodiversity and uniqueness – a place we didn’t want to see lost to the pressures of development but rather to be used for pursuing conservation science. In response to a world facing significant questions about how to manage, mitigate and adapt to the impacts of a changed and changing climate, TNC created the Climate Adaptation + Resilience Laboratory (CA+RL) at Palmyra Atoll to refine, amplify and accelerate the application of TNC’s nature-based solutions to challenges and places far beyond Palmyra. Palmyra is delivering on its promise.

On March 18, Kydd Pollock, Fisheries Science Manager at TNC, and Jana Light, Sr. Associate Director of Philanthropy for TNC Hawai‘i, will take us on a virtual tour of one of the most beautiful snorkel spots at Palmyra, North Coral Gardens. On our journey, we’ll see why Palmyra is so special, and get a glimpse of how TNC’s efforts to conserve the whole of Palmyra is encouraging abundance and life in our nearshore areas. We will see why the atoll is and remains a hope spot for a world facing a changing climate, and why people continue to fall in love with Palmyra. We hope you will, too.

To get an early taste of Palmyra under water, check out this video! And in the meantime, feel free to reach out to Jana Light any time if you have questions about Palmyra or TNC Hawai‘i (jana.light@tnc.org | 808-223-2690).    The Nature Conservancy in Hawai‘i
