Adventurers Club Honolulu - Apr-Jun 2020 Newsletter

Adventurers Club Honolulu - Apr-Jun 2020 newsletter  ALL CHANGED

President’s Message

Hello Adventurers!

Life certainly has changed for us all in the last several weeks with the advent of the COVID-19 coronavirus and all its impacts. As I write this, we have just cancelled our March meeting, the lines at Costco and other retailers are featured on the news and there are new announcements from federal, state and city authorities every-day. Some of our members have cancelled trips through the summer and we are wondering when it will be safe to get on an airplane again and which countries will welcome travelers in search of adventure! In spite of all this, we are sending you our planned programs for the next quarter and are certainly hopeful we will be able to meet to hear these interesting presentations. You will notice that there is no meeting scheduled for April. Although we had hoped that skipping our March meeting would be enough, in an abundance of caution we are also cancelling April, assuming it is quite likely that social distancing will still be in place.

On a happier note, we have arranged for a new entrée at the Outrigger Canoe Club. Since the delicious Curried Chicken Salad in Papaya replaced the Beef Stew entrée, we have noticed that there are very few orders for the Cobb Salad and, at the same time, we have been asked about adding a vegetarian choice. So at our next meeting at OCC on May 21, Thai Vegetable Curry will be offered. I’m told by those who have eaten it that it is very tasty!

Please stay safe and healthy.   Aloha, Carolyn Gire, President

CLUB NEWS

London Club Welcomes ACH Members

We are pleased to provide details of the reciprocal arrangement with the City University Club of London for our members to visit this private luncheon club. You must contact ACH president Carolyn Gire at least four weeks in advance of your trip, giving your expected dates in London and the name(s) of any immediate family members accompanying you. You will then be given a Letter of Introduction. You are responsible for making any necessary reservations and for all charges incurred, as well as for abiding by any house rules, including appropriate dress.

The Club is in the heart of the financial area of London and an ideal place for a first class, modestly priced lunch or simply a drink at the bar. Originally established in 1895 by Oxbridge graduates who wanted a luncheon club in the city, it now encompasses a wider membership. It is open for lunch Monday to Friday throughout the year, closing only between Christmas and the New Year. The City University Club of London is at 42 Crutched Friars, London EC3N 2AP; Tel: 020-786-6681; Website: cityuniversityclub.co.uk; Email: secretary@cityuniversityclub.co.uk

KOYASAN:
            JAPAN'S SACRED MOUNTAIN
                              & WORLD HERITAGE SITE

                    Presented by Lowell Angell

We had an enthusiastic response to a great presentation by Lowell Angell for our first Zoom meeting in May of the beautiful Koyasan site in Japan.  The meeting was via Zoom and was a great success!
Below you'll see photos of how the Zoom meeting was put together with a Power Point Presentation at Lowell's and coordinated by Carolyn and her tech savy daughter.
Watching the presentation on a lap top in the comfort of my living room!

 JAPAN
THROUGH THE EYES OF FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT

PRESENTED BY   KEVIN NUTE

We will be using Zoom again for another, quite different look at Japan for our June meeting.  Please join us on Thursday June 18 at 7 p.m. for “Japan Through the Eyes of Frank Lloyd Wright”, presented by Kevin Nute, a world expert on this topic.

Please RSVP to carogire@hawaii.rr.com by Sunday, June 14th, to be added to the list for this meeting. Guests are welcome and if you would like to include friends, please send me their names and email address in your response.  For security and privacy purposes, we are using Zoom’s waiting room feature and anyone whose email address isn’t on the list won’t be admitted.  You will get an email from me on Monday, June 15th, with the link to sign in.
If you weren’t successful using Zoom, or haven’t used it before, and would like to test it out, please email me and we can set up a time.
     Aloha,
          Carolyn
