Special Event at Manoa Heritage Center

In conclusion of the successful August Aulf Membership Drive these last couple months, the new members of the Adventurers Club of Honolulu, along with the current Board of Directors, and spouses, met at the Manoa Heritage Center today.  The Center is a part of the wonderful gem called Cooke Estate on Manoa Road in Manoa Valley.  Fran, our President, arranged for a tour of the grounds and the sacred Heiau in the back.  About 25 of us broke into two groups and followed docents who explained what we saw while walking around the Estate.  Around the historic tudor-style house of Sam and Mary Cooke are beautiful gardens and areas of native Hawaiian plants.  The restored agricultural Hawaiian heiau, or stone temple, once overlooked the vast Manoa valley which was evidently largely composed of taro growing.  The finale was a delicious luncheon catered by ----- Kitchen.  It was delicious food and more than enough for the troup of hungry "hikers."  Mary Cooke kindly came by and greeted us.  Margo Vitarelli, the Education Director at the Manoa Heritage Center says thay they give tours about once a day.  The telephone number there is 988-1287.  The address is 1859 Manoa Rd, Honolulu.  It is makai from the Waioli Tea Room.

Thanks Fran for making this a very special day which we will long remember!!!
